What to check before the operation for sawing and drilling?

Before starting the machine, a final inspection of the product must be done to ensure that the operation will be carried out safely as regards equipment. Below is a checklist that can be used to support this inspection.
Before operation checklist:
- Diamond tool: In accordance with safety standards, such as EN13236, undamaged, free from cracks, free from distortion.
- Mounting devices: correct dimensions, clean and free from burrs or rust, undistorted, free from wear, free moving where required.
- Fastening nuts or bolts: clean and free from burrs, free from wear, and correct length and pitch.
- Tensioning of the product: when functioning at the selected speed the blade must be completely straight.
- Fasten of the clamping bolts: by the correct procedure, using the correct device/spanner, without undue force.
- Direction arrows.
- Correct speed: selected on the machine (if variable), marked on the wheel relative to the spindle speed.
- Machine guards: re-fitted properly, secure, adjusted correctly.
- Work rests and clamping fixtures: secure, functioning correctly, properly adjusted.
Additionally, before any operation, a trial run must be carried out. Each product must be run for at least 30 seconds at its full operating speed and after each time it is refitted. The correct tensioning of the product must be checked during this trial run.
Before beginning to cut, apply the right speed and loo, if the blade does not present a wobbling effect (tensioning trouble of the blade). This is a cause that kicks back the most dangerous accident in our business.
And always before beginning to analyse if the material to be cut will be able to pinch the blade during the cutting process and occurs a kickback effect.
What else to consider to work safely with diamond tools?
In addition to the equipment on which diamond segmented tools are mounted, the use of other equipment or auxiliary products may be required for safe operation and a safe workplace. These include the following:
- Extraction equipment:
- It is recommended that cutting systems operating without coolant should be fitted with an efficient dust extraction system.
- For portable machines used in confined spaces, it is recommended that portable dust extraction equipment be provided.
- Coolant:
- Examine the product marking ensuring that there is no restriction of use warnings relative to coolant since some products are unsuitable for dry cutting.
- Frame saws should always be used with coolant.
- If coolant is not used, care should be taken to avoid overheating the product.
- Check the product periodically to avoid any deterioration to the product.
