WCC GROUP becomes a candidate for the Diamond Award 2025

West Coast Cutting and Coring Group (WCC Group) becomes a candidate for the Diamond Award 2025 with a Job application. It consists of the Vancouver Int’l Airport (YVR) North Runway Rehabilitation Project, which desperately needed to address slab deterioration to extend the North Runway’s service life and ensure the safety of aircraft and passengers.
The challenge was to perform the repairs around the high volume of flight activity at YVR. In order to do so, the work needed to be done overnight installing over 50,000 dowels to stitch together the concrete panels of the North Runway in short 10 p.m. – 6 a.m. work windows, allowing planes to land the very next morning. In 8 hours, the team had to include a full mobilization of crews and equipment onto the runway, precise sawing and removal of the concrete, dowel installation, concrete patching, quality control check, clean up, and a full demobilization.
