Spanish RE-CORTA joins the Diamond Award 2025

15/01/2025

RE-CORTA, a company dedicated to technical demolition with professionals with more than 30 years of experience, participates in the Diamond Award 2025 with a job called “Remodeling of vaulted discharge galleries. Almodóvar Dam.”. It is part of a project to reduce the bottom drains’ losses and treat the middle drain at the Almodóvar Dam, located in Cádiz (Spain).

The dam was built in 1972, and it is the main hydrological source for the population of Tarifa. It has a capacity of 6 cubic hectometres and its crest, of 698 meters long, is located at a height of 107 meters. The work tasked to RE-CORTA consisted of the expansion of the two existing galleries in the dam’s body, which go from the valve chamber to the outside, downstream.  This expansion would be made in both the lower and upper parts of the galleries, with the condition of keeping the vaulted section in all its length (approximately 16 m).

As the Almodóvar dam is located in “Los Alcornocales”, a natural park, they had to minimize the environmental impact. To do so, they used electric equipment and diamond wire for cutting the majority of the sections.
