NIPPON CONCRETE CUTTING’s submission at Diamond Award 2025

14/01/2025

“Pig iron lumps wire sawing works” is the job with which Nippon Concrete Cutting Co. joins the Diamond Award 2025. Located in Osaka, Japan, it was finished in November 2023 and was carried out to transport the remaining pig iron lumps out of the steelworks by heavy trucks following the closure of the steelworks.

There were 100 lumps of pig iron weighing 20-30 tonnes. However, they could not be transported by heavy trucks as they were. For that reason, the pig iron lumps were cut into small pieces using wire saws to make them heavy and large enough to be loaded onto heavy trucks. To transport pig iron lumps out of the steelworks, it was necessary to break the lumps into smaller pieces.

Protective fences were erected to prevent the wire saw from breaking and injuring people in the vicinity. Also, during cutting, no one was allowed to enter the fence. As pig iron lumps vary in hardness one by one, they may not be cut with the same diamond wire or wire saw machine. Also, the company assessed that they were focused on waste management and sustainability, so they did not use fire, toxic gases, or smoke in the cutting process.

If you want to know more about the submissions, bear in mind that the Diamond Award 2025 ceremony will be held on April 10th, 2025, during the BAUMA Trade Fair in Munich, Germany, where the IACDS Annual Meeting 2025 will also be held.
