KM CONCRETE CUTTING SERVICES is now a candidate for the Diamond Award 2025 with the job Thanckes Oil Fuel Depot – Yonderberry Jetty, which consists in the cutting and coring of the Plymouth’s jetty structure into sections no greater that 32 tonnes.

Yonderberry Jetty, constructed in the 1950s, was an HSE COMAH asset located in the Tamar Estuary, Plymouth (UK) and was used for refuelling tankers and lighter vessels. KM were approached in November 2021 to tender for the concrete cutting demolition of reinforced concrete structures on the Yonderberry Jetty, following the construction of a new jetty. The construction of a new jetty required the demolition of the existing structure, which included further Dolphin structures linked to the jetty.

During 9 months of meticulous planning and design, KM aided the methodology and design to remove circa 2,950 tonnes of reinforced concrete structures, carrying out proposed cut locations, investigation cores to expose reinforcemen, compressive strength tests of core samples and installation and pull testing of sacrificial threaded rods. Also, they faced difficulties like the position of the structures, located on piles, for which sequencing was key to ensure the stability of the remaining structures, but the main technical challenge was working over tidal water, often having limited access and time to the underside of the slabs.
