CORE DRILLING SPECIALITS enters the Diamond Award 2025

11/12/2024

From IACDS, we are pleased to announce that CORE DRILLING SPECIALISTS joins the Diamond Awards 2025 with the job Tunnel Vision, done in the Scottish National Galleries. This was the largest project of its kind that the company has ever tackled and the Temporary support systems that they installed were most likely the largest in Scotland and certainly one of the most complex given the nature of the project.

CORE DRILLING SPECIALISTS’s involvement in the £38.63 million project was on several fronts due to the complexity of the Alteration work and the unknowns within the old structures which was done in three phases. Given the cultural importance of The Gallery Building, it remained open throughout the project, so all elements had to be properly staged and planned to ensure access could be safely maintained and disruption minimized.

This involved working closely with Temporary works Engineers to alter and adapt the design they had put forward to ensure it could be achieved on-site. Moreover, 360 excavators were used over 2 levels to lift the concrete from the sub levels up to the ground level for removal from site which was a slow process but the the company underlines that that was the only way they could safely get the high voumes of concrete from these areas.
