Towards the creation of an international training and certification pathway

6/09/2024

The cutting and drilling industry is poised for significant growth and development, but it must be accompanied by proper worker training.

As the industry expands, there is a critical need to establish standards and best practices that can be adopted universally.

The International Association of Concrete Drilling and Sawing, IACDS, has set the goal of creating a global training pathway with various modules to standardize these practices and ensure that the work is carried out safely, efficiently, and with minimal environmental impact.

This would involve unifying existing training programs in countries such as Germany, Switzerland, the United States, and Japan. The aim of this training pathway is to improve the quality and reliability of drilling and cutting projects, reduce risks to workers, and enhance the sustainability of industry practices.

Moreover, by establishing an international framework, both employees and employers benefit. On one hand, cutting and drilling workers will be highly qualified and can aspire to new job opportunities. Their skills and training will be recognized with a certification card issued by the International Association of Concrete Drilling and Sawing and managed by the national association of the country.

On the other hand, companies in the sector will benefit from a skilled workforce, reducing repair times, downtime, and the need for internal training. This also brings prestige and recognition to the company from its clients, as it will have a trained staff that will perform work according to the industry’s best practices.

This IACDS project, which began development at the end of 2023, is progressing steadily. It is expected to launch in 2025 with training and certification projects for experienced operators in both English and Spanish. If you want to see a sumary of the guide, you han find it here.

Subsequently, and in a phased manner, the courses will be expanded to other levels and languages to become an industry benchmark worldwide.
