Last 17th of April, the International Association of Concrete Drillers and Sawers, IACDS, celebrated the ceremony of the Diamond Award 2016, where the job “Demolition of Ro-Ro ramp at the Mahon’s harbor” of THAYR Demolición Técnica S.L.U, was shortlisted.
The first phase was to make holes Ø 150 mm and 400 mm thick in the slabs, for subsequent hoisting with crane and cutting of the slabs with ground cutting machine in squares of 4.00 x 4.00 m.
The second phase was the cutting of bracing and the capping with diamond wire.
And the third phase was to make two cuts on each pile, one at level -7 m and the second cut at level -15 m.
The closest piles to the dock were removed directly by the cranes, the company had to sink the piles farthest away, refloat them with balloons and bring them to the dock where the cranes rescued and hoisted them out of the water.
